Lease Termination and Renewal

The lease agreement sets out the number of weeks, months or years that the property will be rented to the tenant. The length of time the premises are rented is solely within the discretion of the landlord and the tenant and is called the "tenancy." Typically, an apartment lease is for a 12-month term or period of time. Also, renting a single-family home usually requires a yearlong lease. At the end of the term the lease terminates.
